I'm Not Sure What I Am Wearing

I apologize for the blurry photo but to go along with not knowing what I'm wearing and being blurry eyed, I thought I would go with it.

Ok, that's a lie. I do know what I am wearing...now. This morning I was so out of sorts that I just grabbed anything which would work in hot humid weather and be moderately presentable at work and put that on. Not like that is any different from any other day. Do you do that? Right now I would love to take a nap but that is not "professional" or something like that so instead I will look serious and studious. I could probably do that better with my eyes closed.

Two short-lived outfits

Friday. I was shooting for a purple-yellow-gray combo, sort of like Easter... I love this silk tuxedo shell, but it was another victim of the buying-things-too-big syndrome. It fits okay throughout, but the tie is too low for an empire waist and too high for a normal waist, which makes it look like a strange maternity top. I need to re-attach the tie higher up, probably around the ribcage, and then hopefully all will look normal again...
The yellow bead necklace must be from the 50s or 60s and was a recent thrift store purchase. To tie it in, I borrowed an idea from The Pleated Poppy and attached a grey flower hair clip to it. I like how it turned out.
Anyhow, this outfit didn't last long. I was in a bad mood, it was hot, and after a few hours I put on a grubby t-shirt and got dirty in the backyard instead.

Saturday. This skirt is the sister to the goldenrod version I got on my honeymoon. I don't love this one as much though; I think it's because the "shiny" layer is on the outside instead of the inside... but it still works when I want to be comfortable but flowy.
This outfit didn't last long either. The skirt suffered the insult of getting cajun mayonnaise dripped on it at lunch... and the shirt suffered an attack by a muddy toy shovel as soon as we returned home. Oh well.

Obsessed with coral

I seem to be developing a slight addiction to the color coral. It's all I can do to keep myself from buying every coral item of clothing I see. (In the case of this ruffled, drapey tank top I was unsuccessful. And I'm kind of happy about that.)
Anyhow, today started off rainy but quickly became warm and gorgeous. It's about time! I shed the shoes and cardigan and supervised a (somewhat naked) toddler playdate on the deck. The kids were so happy that it was warm that it didn't seem worth it to enforce the wearing of clothes. Don't you wish life was so carefree now?

I know blogging about the weather is boring but seriously, will it ever stop raining? Is there anyplace where it is not grey raining? If so, can you give me directions? My mood is sort of grey too with the usual worries about our child and his speech, etc. Sigh. Overall, he's great and really really smart but I am Queen of the Worriers (I'd rather be Queen of the Warriors) and anything which could be wrong becomes HUGE to me. Again, sigh.

Even mamas get the blues

First off, let me apologize upfront for the terrible picture quality. I had my camera on the wrong setting and didn't realize it until later... and apparently I'm too busy/lazy to go back and reshoot.
Anyhow, in my latest health kvetching: my cold is almost gone but has settled in my sinuses. This plus lots of rainy weather = massive sinus headache. So we're going for comfort here today, folks. The husband calls this cardigan my "old lady" sweater. Whatever, man. It's comfortable. And blue. I love blue.
In a side note: I sprawled on the couch for a minute to rest my pounding head and when I came to, I was covered in toys and my little boy was staring at me through some binoculars.

Well I Just Can't Buy Anything Nice Anymore

For those who have children, especially the toddler variety, typically you will find stains of unknown origin on your clothing. Usually you or your partner will note these stains on you before you leave the house for work. Oh no, not today. Today I walked into my office, went down the hall to the bathroom, and saw right with my own eyes in the mirror, a nice food stain on my stomach. Thanks, little guy! I am not even sure when it happened. But that whole little story explains why I am crossing my arms over my stomach. Even though I am telling you about the splotch, you do not actually need to see it.

Trying to not fall asleep

The title to this post has nothing to do with the outfit. Or does it... Yes, I am wearing a lot of dark brown colors but then BANG! a flash of bright springy color in the form of a Target cardigan. How'd she do that?! It's like unicorns and leprechauns came together and formed unichauns! Um, yes, I am really that tired.

Anyway, it is quite cold and grey today but I am not letting it dampen my spring spirit. It's too cold to go bare legged so I had to put on some tights. That last sentence made me whimper a little. But instead of pulling on another autumn color, I snatched that sweater from it's place and embraced the spring that would be. Again, sleep deprived?

Sore throat, and a cause

I feel like we've taken a million steps back into autumn today. It's foggy and cold and rainy. And I have a cold and sore throat. Short of wearing head-to-toe fleece, the next best thing for a sore throat is to wrap it in a scarf. So that's today's mode.
Also, since it's a semi-sick-day I feel the need to point out that I have no discernible waistline in this outfit. Ah well. It's basically grown-up pajamas again.

Tequila sunrise

A Saturday post! Woohoo!
Well, I'm dressed much more interestingly than yesterday, you have to give me that. And yes, I do resemble a tequila sunrise. I'm wearing a veritable symphony of coral today!
This outfit started with the skirt, and then I decided to try yesterday's peach cardigan with it. It doesn't exactly match, but it sort of goes. Then the coral shoes, of course, and to truly put myself in the realm of no return, a polka-dotted coral flower pin. And voila!
It's bright, yes, but I like it. And I did say I was trying to add in more color!

Today was just... weird and off-putting and full of bad parenting moments. And now I'm realizing that probably had something to do with it being Friday the 13th. Way to put two and two together, self!
I wore this outfit half the day and gardening clothes the other half. I had to take advantage of the sun - and warmth! It's supposed to rain for something like six months straight starting tomorrow.
This outfit bores me to look at it. I feel like I've worn the exact same thing SO MANY TIMES... although this time I'm bringing a new peach cardigan into play. I know, I know, I can feel your excitement from here.

It's Friday and It's Warm

Typically you would find me wearing jeans on a Friday; however, the beautiful weather enticed me into wearing a linen dress and my new most favorite tunic AND my cowgirl fake cow hide sandals. Awwwwwwwww, warm weather. How I love thee.

Hello! Did you miss me? I went on a short trip to Florida with my husband and some friends. No kids, just sleeping and reading and laying in the sun. It was sunny perfection. Too short, but perfection. And - I kept my word, I took photos while I was gone. So. Let's begin, shall we?

This was my travel outfit on the way to Florida. We had to leave our house at the insanely early hour of 4:40 a.m. And it was cold here. So I tried to wear something that would be comfortable on a chilly plane but cool enough that I wouldn't roast when I got there. I was sort of successful.
I love this little chiffon top but - yet again - I bought it a size too big. So when I got to Florida and tried to go cardigan-less, I was pretty much falling out of my shirt. So sad. I'll have to take in the straps to make it not so cleavagey.
(I took this photo after a full day of traveling, so forgive the rumpling. Also I had to change back into it to take the photo because I was in such a hurry to go swimming when we arrived, I forgot the photograph. Oh well.)

Side note: Did you know that if you wear a long skirt on a plane you are more likely to get frisked because you might be concealing who-only-knows-what under your skirt? Well. Now you know.

Frumptastic in Charge

I look like I'm totally in charge of something in this photo. And how many people remember the 80's situation comedy Charles in Charge? I sure do!! And the song is in my head right now as I type! Go me! And now I just distracted reading the bios of the child actors from the show.

This is a dress from one of my favorite online shops, Shabby Apple. I haven't purchased from them in a while because I was really disappointed with their customer service. But then I reminded myself that they are a small shop and they can't handle returns and shipping out items as fast as my FAVORITE online shop, Zapppos. Shabby Apple is good about answering questions about fit and giving suggestions for dresses. They've expanded a lot since I first started shopping there. The one thing I do like is that they design their clothes so that you don't have to wear something else underneath to cover yourself up. I think I have about five dresses from them and the one I am wearing is my favorite. It's your basic black jersey dress jazzed up a little with the side tie around the neck. And like all of the dresses I've tried, it fits well.

So, yeah. No outfit posts from me the past few days. Sorry... I had a very frantic/frazzled few days and counted myself lucky that I even managed to clothe myself at all, much less well. Honestly, people. There was a sweatshirt worn all day on Wednesday. It wasn't pretty.
But there is a good reason, one that I won't go into now. The same reason I won't be posting much next week, but I will be taking photos! I promise. You'll get a bulk download of my fashion choices all at once.
As for today: I'm clothed. I look okay. For some reason I never wear navy and grey together... I should do it more often. I kind of like it. And it's pretty close to my high-school colors as well. I adore this cardigan wrapped like this but I need to come up with some sort of fastening device, otherwise I have to keep fixing it every few minutes. Oh, the hardship, I know.

For those of you in the know, my title is a quote from Good Night, Vermont! which is a board book for children. It is written along the same lines as Good Night, Moon but much less creepy. And yes, I did just say that a very popular children's book is creepy.

I felt that to offset my fall color palate yesterday, I would attempt to embrace spring with my new shirt from, you guessed it, Target. The weather is decent but not as warm as I would have like it. These jeans, like most of my pants, are too long so I rolled them up to make them more springlike to go with my "It's got to get warm some goddamn day, RIGHT?!" theme.

So instead of pretending it's spring and wearing bright colors and whatnot, I went with a palate of brown with some tan. There are some pinks and greens in the jacket and I did wear but Superhero necklace but generally, I am down with brown. That sounds weird.

OMG! She Posted!

Unfortunately, work gets in the way of posting. The last two days were quite stressful and intense but in the end: I winz! Yesterday I had a nice Ann Taylor charcoal grey suit for a court appearance. I prefer suits with dresses to skirt suits. I think that they look neater and it means I don't have to wear a blouse. Did I mention I generally do not like the way button down blouses feel? I cannot explain why. It's like I have a reaction to them. That makes a lot of sense.

Today I had a more informal hearing so I dressed a little more casual. I couldn't put myself through wearing a suit two days in a row. Oh, the inhumanity of it all! When I tried to write of it all, I wrote "alf" instead. Was that a subconscious signal? Hmmmm... What could it mean? Discuss amongst yourselves.

Back to the outfit. It is actually cold enough today to wear this heavier wool jacket. Sad, I know. Mother Nature can kiss my arse. Still, I like the jacket. I love the color. And it is very comfortable. I realize that this shirt does not photograph well from afar so here is a close up of the shirt and the jacket. And apparently my bosom. Bonus!

I'm having an "off" day so far. Yesterday went all wrong, and today I just can't get my head around everything and I'm so tired. I'm pretty sure this is called I-need-a-vacation-itis. Anyhow, this morning is just errands, etc., so I didn't make the effort to get dressed up. I have a meeting later today so hopefully I'll rally and look more presentable by then. I'm pleased with the color of this tank even though it can skew "maternity" since it's so loose and floaty. But I'm making a concerted effort to build more color into my wardrobe, and this accomplishes that goal!
